Our charity, led by local Trustees, has been in Goole for 22 years. Based on local need, we promote and provide volunteering opportunities for people to play a positive role in society and in helping to build communities. Together we deliver a community garden maintenance service, working in Goole and within a 10 mile radius, to those most in need; namely the elderly and disabled. We have 2 allotment plots where volunteers have the opportunity to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables and a short distance away from our allotments we have a community garden centre in West Park, which opens its doors to the public and sells plants to raise funds for the charity. We manage a community café next door to our garden centre where volunteers have the opportunity to work and develop new skills in hospitality. This operates as a CIC under the auspices of The Green Team charity and profits are gifted back to the charity to help it work towards becoming financially self-sufficient. Also under the CIC umbrella is our commercial gardening and grounds maintenance service which was launched in 2017. Following training with the charity, those volunteers wishing to pursue employment and who are facing barriers into gaining employment, can apply for a temporary 3 month contract of employment with our commercial gardening team.
We are rooted in the community and we are a trusted organisation. We have experience of providing worthwhile, positive volunteering opportunities, work experience placements and training courses, enabling people to learn new and develop existing skills in horticulture, how to use gardening tools and equipment, health and safety, basic first aid, employability; moving people forward from their own individual starting points, at their pace; learning transferable life skills, contributing to the betterment of the lives of others and themselves.
