Allerthorpe Common Nature Reserve, managed by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is a small but superb example of lowland heath in the Vale of York, supporting an impressive range of heathland wildlife. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There is a friendly Yorkshire Wildlife Trust volunteer group that meets at the reserve on the first Sunday of each month, undertaking practical conservation work. Visit the web site for details of working parties and other forthcoming events.
