Goole – History and Archaeology of late 17th and early 18th century – Tuesday 19:30 for 10 sessions. The 17th and 18th centuries witnessed dynamic and dramatic change in the British Isles. Learners will explore the literary, historical and archaeological evidence for these and look at extant buildings, landscapes and societal systems from the period. ALSO To the Edges of Empire. The course will look at the workings of the Roman empire in the East, and North Africa based on Jordan and Tunisia. We will examine the pre-Roman culture, the Roman take-over, Roman artistic and architectural developments, the economic basis and the transition into the Bysantine Empire and the Arabic conquest.
